Coaxial chimney installation norms: basic installation requirements

Superficially coaxial designs resemble conventional sandwich chimneys. However, in this case, the external pipe is responsible for the supply of air from the street to the boiler. On the inside, however, combustion products are discharged.

Mounted coaxial chimney in a country house can be, of course, with their own hands. However, in the process of installing such a design, it is imperative that you follow certain safety requirements.

Where used

Gas boilers used for heating of country houses are divided into two main groups:

  • with an open camera;
  • with sealed.

In the first case, the necessary air for combustion of the fuel passes into the unit directly from the boiler room. Equipment with a closed chamber from the room in which it is installed is completely isolated.Such units are complemented by coaxial chimneys for the supply of outdoor air.

What to consider when designing

When installing a coaxial chimney of a boiler operating on “blue fuel”, the following rules must be observed:

  • the exit of a similar design is supposed to be located not closer than 60 cm from the nearest window and door openings;
  • it should also be 1500 mm above the upper edge of the boiler;
  • such a chimney should be located at a distance of not less than ½ the diameter of the external gas supply line from the nearest gas pipeline;
  • from the boiler pipe to the point of pipe entrance from the wall, the distance should be no more than 1.5 m;
  • To install a chimney with a diameter less than the diameter of the entrance of the boiler is not allowed
  • no objects should be placed between the heating unit and the wall into which the pipe is supposed to lead;
  • There should be nothing inside the tee or adapter used to connect the boiler and the pipe that would interfere with the free movement of exhaust gases.

Also, when designing a heating system at home, you should take into account the fact that:

  • on the outer wall of the house, the chimney should be pulled in such a way that the distance from it to the ground is at least 2 m;
  • baffles on coaxial chimneys should not be fixed because of the possibility of icing;
  • the distance from the pipe to the ventilation window must be at least 1 m.

Next to the laid chimney, among other things, there should not be fences, trees, pillars, etc. It is also impossible to bring the pipe out, but to some room, of course.

Collecting a coaxial chimney with more than 2 knees in a country house is not recommended. At the same time, the total length of a pipe section assembled from multidirectional parts should not exceed 3 m.

To lay chimneys over the balconies and loggias allow regulations. However, the pipe should be placed sufficiently high above such structures.

In order to determine the location of the laying of the chimney, on the diagram of a country building should draw a circle centered at the junction of the balcony to the wall, with a radius equal to the length of the latter. The pipe must in any case be located outside this circle.

What are the standards for the installation of chimneys

Of course, there are certain standards in terms of the actual installation and assembly of such structures. When installing a coaxial chimney, for example, the lower elements should always be inserted into the top.

At the same time for building should use the crimp type. Using the same elements, they also connect adapters, elbows and other parts of the chimney. When mounting such a structure, among other things, it should be borne in mind that its individual segments should enter each other at least by ½ of its diameter.

Place the exit of the pipe from the wall without fail is filled up with mounting foam. For aesthetics, a decorative grill is subsequently attached from above.

Through the walls and ceilings chimneys are laid, according to the rules, exclusively with the use of fire-resistant gaskets. Asbestos-cement sleeves are usually pre-inserted into holes made in the enclosing structure. The space between their walls and the chimney is filled with a fire-resistant asbestos cord.

When installing coaxial pipes, it is also necessary to take into account that it is not allowed to include parts from different manufacturers or self-made parts. It is also impossible to use glue or sealants to join parts of such a pipe.

What are allowed to use methods of installation

Installations of this type can be installed:

  • vertically;
  • horizontally.

Both of these methods are allowed to be used for the installation of coaxial chimneys, including in low-rise country houses. At the same time, according to the regulations, a horizontal pipe must have a length of no more than 3 m. An exception to this rule are only some types of coaxial chimneys, manufactured mainly by foreign well-known companies.

The vertical coaxial design, according to the rules, in a one-story house should rise above the ridge at least 0.5 m.

Pipe slope

Horizontal chimneys can be installed with a slope to the ground, and in the direction of the boiler. In the first case, the condensate under the action of gravity will be discharged outside the low-rise building and go into the soil. Thus, chimneys are usually installed in the southern regions of the country.

In the northern regions of Russia, installation of pipes in this way is impossible. In winter, condensation can form a frost at the end of the chimney. At the same time, due to the ice, air will stop flowing to the heating unit, which sooner or later will lead to its breakdown.

In the middle lane and in the north of the country, coaxial chimneys are still installed with a slope to the boiler. In this case, it is necessary to use a condensate trap. Without it, moisture will begin to drain directly into the boiler, which, of course, will negatively affect its operation and service life.

In any case, no matter where the pipe goes - to the ground or to the boiler - according to standards, its slope must be at least 3 °.

Do I need ventilation

The design of the coaxial chimney is such that the air in the boiler room by the heating unit is not consumed in any way. However, it is wrong to consider that equipping the ventilation in this room is not necessary when using such equipment.

To be ventilated such a room, of course, should. In any case, a window with a window in the boiler room must be equipped, of course.

Lack of fresh air can adversely affect the operation of the boiler. Due to the high humidity, its parts will start to rust quickly, which will lead to the failure of this equipment.

In addition, if a boiler breaks down, harmful gases may start to enter the premises.The presence of ventilation in this case will reduce the risk of poisoning of people living in the house.

Chimney Assembly Stages

In most cases, pipes of this type are mounted horizontally in suburban residential buildings. Vertical installation of a coaxial chimney is performed only when it is impossible to stretch it horizontally due to the particular layout of the house. In any case, installation of a similar construction is carried out as follows:

  • the marking is carried out in the place of the pipe exit to the street;
  • on the marking a hole is made for the chimney;
  • the passage of the pipe through the wall or slope and the overlap is isolated non-combustible material;
  • the first element of the chimney is connected to the boiler;
  • all other parts of the pipe are assembled.

The chimney is connected to the nozzle of the heating unit with the help of a tee or a knee. When connected to a dual-circuit unit, an additional node is also used. The design of the used connecting or transitional elements is chosen depending on whether the boiler pipe is located on top or on the side.
