How to detect Giardia
Currently, the diagnosis of giardiasis is very diverse, but at the same time difficult. Difficult to identifygiardiausing only scatological research methods. False negative results can be obtained with incorrectly collected material for research; in the study of feces on the background of medication, especially antibiotics, antidiarrheal drugs, laxatives; with laboratory errors; in the study of feces in the "silent" period, when there is no allocation of cysts, this period is from 8 to 14 days.
The detection of lamblia in patients with all the rules of the study in the first analysis is 76%, in subsequent studies the probability of a positive result is already 90%. Inconsistent secretion of cyst lamblia with feces requires repeated studies of feces and the use of other methods of laboratory control.
The coprological method is the most accessible, but at the same time uninformative. To obtain a positive laboratory result, various methods are used: use of liquid feces from the last portion; preservation with 10% formalin in glassware portions of weakened feces; the use of various smear staining methods (Lugol solution or gamotoxylin iron trichrome).
Patients with clinical symptoms of giardiasis, but with a negative result of a coprological study of feces, it is advisable to conduct a study of a 12-duodenum graduate student or a post-graduate student of the upper jejunum.
The most reliable and reliable method for the diagnosis of giardiasis is duodenal biopsy.
