How to make a hole in hardened steel without drilling
In this simple way, you can make not only a round hole in the rolled steel, but also a hole of any other shape in no extra effort. The chemical method will help you out and ease the task. The method does not require expensive chemical reagents, all ingredients can be found in any farm.

I suggest an easy way of making holes in high-speed steel. To work, you will need:
any product of high-speed steel;
liquid for removing varnish (can be replaced with white spirit or acetone.) I chose the liquid for removal only because of the pleasant smell, and it is the same acetone)
empty plastic container (bottle);
homemade device from the charger and two nails.
Making a hole in the metal withoutdrills
Apply the nail polish remover on the cotton wool and degrease the surface of our workpiece.
Apply varnish on the desired area. Varnish should be applied in a thick layer on both sides. Not forgetting to carefully coat the ends. We leave the blank for 10-15 minutes to dry the varnish.
On a dry surface with a marker on both sides of the workpiece, I mark the place under the hole. I choose a place arbitrarily, now I need to show how to make a hole with this method. For example, you want to put the usual factory rivet. The diameter of the hole should be slightly less than the size of the rivet.
Then use a knife to remove the varnish inside the contour of the hole. Do it from two sides.
Pour water into the tank and add 3 tablespoons of salt. The height of the water in the tank should be 10 mm less than the height of the area of the workpiece coated with varnish.
I take a device made from the charger of a hair clipper and two nails. The nails will function as electrodes — I connected them to one contact. Another contact is just bare bare wire. I use a 12-volt charger, but the usual charger from a mobile phone will cope with this task.
Stripped wire should be a plus, electrodes - a minus. Positive wire with clothespin fasten to our workpiece. Then we put nails into the water.
You can make slots in the tank to fix the position of the nails. Including a charger in the outlet. After switching on, the water around the nail electrodes starts to bubble, and the cleaned hole label becomes black.
Note: to check the polarity of the wires, you must connect the charger. If the water starts to bubble around the nails, then this is a minus and you have connected correctly. The appearance of bubbles in the water around the workpiece says that the minus is connected to it and you need to throw wires. The minus should always be connected to the electrodes, plus - to the workpiece being treated by pickling! Leaving the container for one hour, 30 minutes after the start of the process, the water must be changed. Turning off the charger and pull out the workpiece.
At the intended place a through hole was formed. In order to make the hole diameter larger, the process can be continued. Or file rough edges with a file. This is how an etching of high-speed steel with the help of the most common objects can make the necessary hole in the workpiece.
