How to make a mirror with light
This is my first master class, and I am very proud of it. I would like to share something really interesting. This project is quite flexible, and if you have extra time for it, you can always do something neater or better. Note: In my version, the illumination turns on when the general light in the room is turned on and not vice versa. I, for example, do not like a lot of light when I'm going to sleep, so it automatically fades. And it is not necessary to turn on the light control in the electrical circuit, you can simply configure it to turn it on and off. It all depends on your preferences. Assembly time takes approximately 5-6 hours.
What you need
- - a mirror or a set mirrors;
- - 2.5 m square dowel (10 x 10 mm);
- - assembly glue;
- - materialwhere the mirror will be mounted.
- - LEDs - preferably two times smaller than the thickness Nagel. I used 20 pieces with a blue glow. Depending on the design of your mirror or your preferences, you can take them more or less;
- - the wires are not thick, which will be able to withstand a voltage of 20 V. Usually, wires for connecting speakers are suitable systems;
- - power supply. I used a 4.5 V adapter with 400 mAh;
- - solder.
- - charge;
- - transistor;
- - photoresistor.
If you want the main light to turn off, the mirror lights up a little, you need a resistor. Before I found an option that would work, I had to try a lot of resistors. I'm not too good at the components of the power grids, so I tried everything in a straightforward way until I got the desired result.
First, we cut the dowel into 10 separate segments. My mirrors are about 30 cm in size, so I made 15 cm lengths each. I worked with 4 mirrors. The upper had two side elements of the Nagel and one upper. The two mirrors below had only two side mirrors, because the light will not be visible if it is directed upwards to the adjacent mirror. And the bottom mirror will have two side elements and one bottom. Ideally, you need to mark the place of cutting, and at what angle you will make sawing. If you have time, you need to cut the nog at an angle of 45 degrees so that they fit together perfectly.
Drill holes and insert the LEDs
Now, if your light bulbs have some kind of framing, then you can use it. If not, then the normal option would be to insert LED lamps into a tree. Hint:
Do not glue them until you are sure that the light is distributed correctly, otherwise you will get an ugly picture. Now we drill holes in the tree, they should be symmetrical. Do not forget to put something, otherwise plunge the drill into your favorite table. I used the box for the electric drill. In order for the nog to be securely fixed and not to scroll, I tightened it with a clamp. After making the holes, insert the LEDs in them. But it's still too early to glue! Important:
I forgot to take a picture of it, but you will need another hole in the middle to feed the wire from the power supply, and another one is close to install the photoresistor.Based on aesthetic preferences, I let the power supply wire in the center, and the photoresistor to the side. Tip:
How to solder LED lamps without cutting wires
Cut the plastic insulation of each wire, but without violating the integrity of the wires. Using your nails (if any), force the plastic apart at the cut location, thus exposing a short space to live. Grab the inside of the power cable with wire cutters. Pull it out a little without biting the core. This job can make you sweat. For me, this method of parallel connection seemed to be the fastest and best. Solder the LEDs. Remember:
LED lamps work only with a certain connection, so before soldering make surethat everything works.
Soldering lamps and gluing wood
Make a mark on how deep you will sit light bulbs. They should not stick out from under the mirror. I secured them 7 cm deeper edges. This work may seem tedious, but you will not notice your favorite song when everything has already been done. Do not forget to test the work of lighting, drawing attention to the angle of incidence of the rays from the lamps. If you have single-colored wires, then you can make some marks on one for the difference. LEDs have one pin longer than the other, so you can distinguish the cathode from the anode. One can think of something like a rule: "a wire with a strip goes to a long diode output". Although this is not visible in the photo, I had an inscription on one wire. When applying glue, do not pour it a lot, as when pressed, the wooden structure can float. To press the wooden frame, I put other mirrors on it. In the meantime, I continued to solder LEDs for them. The wire must go from one mirror to another.
Add connection elements
It may be necessary to remove a mirror from a wall, then let it not take a long time. To be able to fix the mirrors one by one, they must be interconnected by means of connectors. For convenience, I glued one of the connector elements to a mirror.
We have done most of the work on the project, so it is time to check how everything works. Check the power supply on a single light element.If suddenly the power supply turns out to be too powerful, then not all the lamps will burn. How do you know if the power of the adapter is too strong? If the light is bright first and then dims, then most likely you spoiled the lamp. If the light is first emitted, and then the lamp goes out, it means it has burst. At the same time, the LED may become hot, turn black, or its shell may be broken. If the light remains bright, then everything is fine, but if the LED lamp heats up, then you are overloading it. The heat emitted by such light elements should be insignificant or inconspicuous. If you build an electrical circuit with a smooth dimming element, then the brightness level of the lamps may drop by 20-30%. This should be taken into account. Below is a photo of how everything should look. Notice how the connection from one mirror to another is arranged. So, after everything is soldered and glued, proceed to the next step.
Power and circuit
And this is a reverse action, it turns on when dimming.
Now, if you have not had any problems, move on to more complex work. You do not need to understand the schemes much, but I needed the basic knowledge, because I didn’t like the mirror in such a performance. But, if everything suits you, add a switch, connect the power supply. Use two-sided tape or screws to fix the mirrors, that's all. But if you want to make a simple scheme, we continue reading. We need a transistor, various resistors and a photoresistor. I spent a long time with this scheme. By trial and error I found the appropriate settings. That's what you need to remember: - In bright daylight or artificial light, you need to carefully experiment with power to not burn the lamps. - If you want to set up a very light glow in the dark with the help of resistors, when adjusting the room, completely darkened from other light sources.
The final part
To respond to external light sources, a photoresistor was glued to the base of the mirror. I would prefer to place it on top, but the connectors that I used were not designed for three contacts. There are ways to get around this, but I decided to leave less and less difficult. Now that the main part of the work has been done, it remains to fix the mirrors on the wall. I used double-sided tape on foamed basis. Obviously, before mounting the mirrors, you need to check the work of the lighting again. Everything.
