Master class: crochet head and embroidery headboard
This master class can not be attributed to a particular type of lace, because the basic idea was borrowed from Romanian lace, but in the process used techniques that are not used in the traditional version.
Therefore, it can be attributed to the following types of creativity:
- romanian lace
Difficulty: medium. If you have never worked in the technique of Romanian lace, then you should not take on such a panel. To get started, try to make two or three small embroidery.
It took the author three months to create such a panel, despite the fact that she worked on it for no more than 4 hours a day.
- “Anna 14” mercerized cotton yarn - 20 skeins;
- crochet hook from 1.9 to 2.6;
- tablet (subframe);
- layout, print on banner fabric;
- pins 1 pack (500 pcs.);
- expanded polystyrene 3 sheets;
- glue moment.
So, let's begin.
1.You need to decide on a picture.Set in the search for "lace vector image." Of the many options I liked this one most.
Image from photobank. By paying for it a certain amount of money, you get it in excellent resolution and you can immediately print it in the size you want.
If you own the skills to work in Corel Draw, you can draw a similar image yourself. The author went on the second path and ordered the rendering of the layout from the designer. If you do it yourself, consider the location of each line, each dash. Then you will manage to avoid mistakes and it will be easier to work exactly on the layout.
With the standard sizes of the headboard of the bed 160 cm, it was determined by the method of sampling that it is optimal to make the panel a little less than the bed itself. Therefore, the size was chosen 140x140 cm.
Send a vector image to any printing company that is engaged in large-format printing.
The author ordered two types of printing - on poster paper and on banner fabric (artificial canvas). As a result, the poster was not needed at all, because banner fabric is very comfortable to use and durable.
You can, of course, save and print the image in pieces at home on a printer and then glue it together.But in this case, in the process of embroidery, the image should be covered with a film so that the ink does not print on the lace.
With large format printing, the image undergoes such processing that the ink does not smudge and there is no need to use film.
Important point!When printing, note that you will work from the wrong side. That is, at the end of the work, removing the lace, the front side will have a mirror pattern. In the case of our flower on the printout, its top looks in the upper right corner, and when finished, it will look in the upper left.
2.The next stage is the preparation of the subframe (tablet, uncoupler - as it is more convenient for someone to call it). This is the frame on which the background and the lace itself will continue to stretch. We also need this stretcher to assemble the elements of lace. It is not convenient to work with it when embroidering parts, as it is a very large size.
Subframe shot down from chipboard. In order to make it convenient to collect embroidery on it (roughly speaking, sticking pins), you need to glue it with foam or expanded polystyrene. We used sheets of polystyrene foam - it does not crumble like regular foam, and is quite affordable (in hardware stores). Sheets size 60x100 cm.Accordingly, it took us 3 sheets.
Glued on a conventional PVA and the joints were still stapled for reliability. The glue does not dry out immediately, therefore it is better to dry on a horizontal surface so that the sheets do not crawl.
All this work can be done both at the beginning, before embarking on embroidery, and at the end, when the main embroidery is ready and you need to assemble all the elements into a single composition.
As they said earlier, it is not necessary to immediately stretch the canvas on a frame. First we have to
3.Work on the elements.
Of course, you can start working with weaving cords, because you need more than a dozen meters!
But the best thing to do in stages: tie the cord in size for each element. So it will actually be much faster and more efficient.
The panel used three types of cord:
1.ordinary cord "caterpillar" (only the smallest flowers).
2.cord "wide caterpillar" (most of the elements).
3.let's call it "very wide caterpillar." This is the author's own "invention" - they simply added one more column without a crochet when weaving "a wide caterpillar". (This cord was used when working with a large flower).
Since Anna's yarn is thin (100g / 450 m), all cords are tied into three threads.
We lay out the cord according to the picture, fasten it with pins, measure the desired length.We cut the cord with a small margin so that it was possible to complete the end of the cord in the picture.
The petal narrows, so we complete the cord, diminishing the loop. We leave the thread for now. Then we work with the cord, laying it out on the picture. So we collect the item. Then we connect the cords.
Cord connection scheme (MK from the magazine Doublet).
After the cords are laid out and connected, you can proceed to fill the elements with a grid.
The grid is made as follows: we lay out the cord according to the drawing, fasten it with pins, connect the cords to each other.
We fasten the thread with a needle for embroidery. Pin mark the future top of the arch. Insert the needle in the opposite direction and fasten the thread.
Through the cord pull the needle up. Mark the top of the next arch again. We get a needle in the lower arch, make a knot.
You can remove the pin from the lower arch and mark the top of the next one.
Enter the cord at the top of the lower arch. We skip the needle with the thread up the string.
Mark the top of the arch of the third row with a pin, fix the thread on the top of the arch of the second row. Mark the next arch and repeat the action. Thus, the entire petal is filled.
If your layout is correctly drawn, then you just need to follow the drawing, noting the tops of the arches, and not by eye like here.
When we come to the end of the petal, the grid rests on the cord. On the cord with a pin, mark the top of the future arch. Introduce the needle in the marked place.
We stretch the thread, fasten it to the cord and complete the arch.
This is what happens when we remove the pins and turn the element on the front side.
In this way, the remaining elements of the panel are assembled and embroidered.
When all the elements are embroidered, and it remains to put the composition together, the tablet is already useful.
To begin with, it is necessary to lay out the edging with a cord (caterpillar), to which the background grid will be attached.
Further on the drawing we fix the elements with pins.
Now there is no less time-consuming work on the grid, combining all the details of the panel in a single composition.
The grid is made of a chain of air loops in two threads. It can be linked in advance and very much. In the process, it will be clipped, but since this is a regular chain, working with it is very easy.
We lay out and fix the finished elements on the tablet. Lay out a chain of air loops on the picture, pin securing the tops, Sew to the cord in the places of their connection.So we post it till the moment you see that the thread needs to be cut off. At the junction with some elements, you can continue to lay out the chain, and with some it is better to cut (if the element with a grid, for example).
We begin to make the second row. We fasten the chain to the cord. We pass the chain through the top of the lower arch and make a knot. pin fix the next vertex, make a node on top of the arch of the lower row.
If we are on the path of the chain a small element, and it is clear that the thread can not be cut, and continue to spread on the picture, then we sew the chain to the element and continue to work.
Thus, we connect all elements of the panel.
A similar principle is collected and the middle of the flower. A chain of air loops connects the petals and round elements.
When the work is completed, we remove the lace from the stretcher. Wash in cold water by hand. The author was washing with baby soap. Without pressing, lay out on a flat surface (you can on the same stretcher, but laying a towel or something soaking). And we rest for a couple of days until the lace dries out completely (the author writes that she didn’t have enough patience and she didn’t wait until it was completely dry, and, unfortunately, this affected the result). Therefore, patience and patience again - this is what you need in two or three days.
Again, pull on the lace and look carefully at all the elements. All threads are hidden in the cords. And for reliability, we process all the cords with a transparent gel moment. It will leave a lot of glue. This work is best done outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. Again wait for at least a day to glue dry.
When everything is dry, you can remove and turn the lace.
We stretch the fabric of the required size and color on the frame and attach the panel to it.
If desired, you can frame the picture in a baguette.
Unfortunately, I can not provide a photo, because this work was performed by another person.
While the panel is waiting for repair in the room. Therefore, the photo in the interior is made in Photoshop.
And some detailed photos.
