'MTV Classic' Will Play All Your 90s Favorites
So long, VH1 Classic.
MTV recently announced plans to rebrand the channel as MTV Classic, which will air "an eclectic mix of fan-favorite MTV series and music programming drawn from across its rich history, with a special focus on the 1990s and early 2000s," according to a statement from the company.
Viewers can expect nostalgic animated shows likeAeon Flux,Beavis and Butt-head, andDariaduring primetime, while "binge-worthy" marathons of early reality shows likeReal World, Road Rules, andLaguna Beachwill occupy airtime on the weekends. Programs likeTotal Recall Liveand select episodes ofMTV Unplugged(think Bob Dylan, Erykah Badu, and Nirvana) will also feature in the mix.
The launch will take place August 1, commemorating 35 years since the channel that was once dedicated exclusively to music videos debuted. The first show will beMTV Hour One, a rebroadcast of MTV's first 60 minutes of programming from 1981.
