Heat shrinkable bundles of plastic bottles

I had an idea how to make shrinkable collars that could be used for various business purposes. The idea is based on the ability of PET plastic to compress when exposed to hot air. Experimentally I came up with three types of clamps, which I will tell you about. This clamp consists of two parts

Composite clamp

Making the first part:
The first element of the bundle is a ring about 2 cm wide, cut from a plastic bottle. The diameter of the ring is determined by the diameter of the bottle: the larger the volume of the bottle used, the larger the working diameter will be for the finished clamp.

Holes are made at the edges of the strip using a punch. That it was more convenient to do, I fold and iron the ring to get a double strip of plastic. I also pierce the second hole, combined with the first, to widen the holes. Making the second element: For the second part of the bundle, I suggest using a plastic handle, taken from the wine packs. It has T-shaped ends, which are monolithically connected to the handle itself, therefore they are reliable enough to break.

Using a yoke

One side of a plastic handle (T-shaped end) is passed through the hole in the ring from the bottle. Next, the clamp is wrapped around the crimp or attached objects and fastened from the second end.

In order for the harness to tightly compress and fix the desired object, it is necessary to apply a thermal effect. For these purposes, you can use a building dryer (heat gun) or other sources of hot air. At home, even a gas burner of a household stove will do. When exposed to heat, a strip cut from a plastic bottle shrinks, resulting in a reliable fixation of two elements.Please note! Shrinkage of plastic was not very large, so it is necessary that the piping initially adhered to the object as tightly as possible. For this type of clamps, I use handles from plastic pails for mayonnaise. The general technology of making straps is similar to the previous version, with one difference: such handles have round hinge latches, therefore round plastic holes are made in strips of PET plastic. Handles from plastic buckets are longer,therefore, they allow crimping products of a larger diameter.

Finally, I’ll tell youhow I made a cut-out collar made of PET plastic. For this strapping, I cut several strips about 1 cm wide from a plastic bottle. I made a hole with a punch from one end. From the other end I made semicircular cuts, located symmetrically on both sides of the strip.
