Table paper lamp

The goal in creatingDesktop paper luminairewas to make a luminaire from one sheet of paper, while not looking like that, the result was an interesting and with an unusual effect a lamp made from a regular sheet of paper. When designing, simple methods of symmetry and asymmetry were used, which can also become the basis for more complex structures. How to decorate such a lamp you decide yourself, you can paint in the Oriental style, for example, with sakura flowers, - fantasize, do it and you will succeed.

Materials and tools:

  1. sheet of paper (drawing paper) 62x45 cm;
  2. long metal ruler, stationery knife;
  3. pencil, empty ballpoint pen;
  4. for folding: a folder with hard crusts (or something like that);
  5. wide double-sided tape;
  6. square of board (plywood) for a 15 cm base, you can use other materials for the base;
  7. 4 legs;
  8. brackets for fixing the cord;
  9. electrical tape or shrink insulation;
  10. drill, drill;
  11. soldering equipment;
  12. white paint;
  13. lamp (do not use incandescent bulbs), the lamp was used as a washer (LEDs can be used by setting them at different heights inside the lamp), cord (wire), switch, plug.
  14. The set of materials and tools may vary depending on the materials you use and the complexity of the project.

Step 1

Let's start creating the lamp base. Let's cut a square out of the board (plywood or other material). Sanding the surface with  sandpaper,payingspecialattentiontotheedgesoftheworkpiece.&Nbsp;

On both sides of the base, with a pencil and a ruler, we will draw diagonals - this will require that the lamp be installed exactly on the center side, and the lamp legs on the other side.

Note the places for drilling holes for the knife - on the lower part of the base on the diagonals, departing from the angle of about 1/6 of the diagonal length, we note the attachment points of the 4 legs. Drill holes, if you use screws to attach the legs, then simply attach them to the designated places with a screwdriver.On the inside of the base in the center (the intersection of the diagonals) will fix the lamp. Now mark the place for the hole to thread the cord (the diameter of the drill should be slightly larger than the diameter of the cord) —we drill a hole for the cord.

When all the holes are drilled, let's paint the base with white paint. We wait until the paint dries.

Step 2

Putting the foundation. First, attach the lamp itself with glue or screws in the center of the inner part of the base, sell the cord (wire) into the hole for the cord and fix it from the bottom using brackets, install the switch and plug and check if the lamp is working, then go ahead. Attach the legs to reduce the basics. All the lamp base is ready.

Step 3

Let's start cutting the sheet. Take a sheet of paper measuring 62x45 cm, the paper should be thick enough to keep its shape and flat.

We will transfer a layout using a ruler and a pencil, indicating where to cut and fold,   on a sheet of paper. Need to draw on the inside of the future of the lampshade.

Lines on the layout:

  1. red - cut lines;
  2. dashed blue - fold lines.

Now use a sharp knife (stationery or special for paper), where it is necessary (along the red lines) to cut the paper so as not to move out of the line, use the ruler and firmly press it to the sheet.

Now, in order to make it more convenient to bend the paper to the fold (dotted blue lines), we make an embossment of the fold line. Take a ruler and an empty ballpoint pen and circle all the fold lines. The embossing should be clear if the embossing is not clear repeat again.

Erase all pencil lines with an eraser.

Step 4

All work on bending is best done on a solid, level surface (table); when bending, use both hands on each side of the paper; use a long, preferably metal, ruler.

We proceed to bending the sheet along the lines. First, let's bend over 4 main lines that run across the entire sheet, for this we use a straight edge, for example a table or board; Now, in order to fix the places of the fold, we will go over the places of the fold,such as a plastic ruler.

Let's move on to the most difficult part of this project - bending the cut-through strips of paper to create the texture of the lamp.

We begin to fold as much as possible at the folds from the upper strip; the embossing made in  atthefoldswillhelpusinthis,thecleareritwillbe,themoreconvenientitwillbetobendthestrips.Doonelaneatatime,useyourfingersorapenciltopushandfoldthestripsofpaper.&Nbsp;

You shouldn’t try to immediately bend the strip right away - this can lead to rupture or the creation of unwanted folds. It is better to first bend the fold points in all bands, and then repeat again.

After you’ve finished folding all the strips, put a sheet on the table and gently click on it (on the whole sheet and on the folds of the bands) until the sheet is completely folded (it will be level) - once again, smooth the folds of the bands to finally fix them.

Stick double-sided tape on the strip with the edge (2 cm wide on the layout), which connects the edges of the lampshade.

Step 5

Take a double-sided adhesive tape and glue it around the edge of the base. Put the base on the table, take the lampshade and begin to gently glue it to the base, tightly pressing the paper to the base so that the lampshade securely   stuck to the base. The lamp shade can be glued in 2 versions: hiding the legs of the lamp and not - the choice is yours.

If there were no errors in size, then the lampshade should easily and accurately lie on the ground. If the paper is slightly larger, try to keep the same gap on both sides. The work is best guided by the basic rule: "Measure seven times, cut once."

Step 6

Now, when the lampshade is attached to the base, glue the lampshade along the seam (we connect the edges of the lampshade), a tape of adhesive tape is stuck there, for this we place one hand inside the lamp and one outside and starting from the bottom we will fasten the edges. The result should be a straight, even seam. We put the lamp on its side and once again ironed along the seam.

Finishing touches: put the lamp and inspect it, all gluing points should be smooth and neat, the walls of the lampshade should be smooth, if not, you can lightly press to achieve this.

Table paper lampis ready. Thanks to the folding paper, got an interesting play of light and illusion. Now the luminaire is the base for further creativity, you can decorate it (just paint it or apply some drawing) or leave it as it is.
