Unique passepartout

Last year, my friend visited the country of the pharaohs Egypt and, as expected, brought a souvenir - a decorative papyrus with the image of Tutankhamen, Cleopatra and Nefertiti. Everything is very beautiful, one “but” is just a piece of papyrus and it turned out to be a real problem somewhere to adapt it. After a long rest on the shelf, I decided to give my mind to the gift. Such an image would take bamboo for granted, but where would you get it? In the building stores are sold only in bundles, and not cheap is a pleasure. She did not bother to poke around for a long time and looked at the Internet. The proposal to make bamboo from cardboard rollers (from food film, for example, or from foil, parchment paper) did not please me either, because, as a rule, you always throw out all this treasure, but in vain. And now, with these thoughts, she was looking for a way out. Once I walked past the trash can (yes, and I shouldn’t laugh) and I saw an ordinary plastic water pipe. I gladly dragged her home, laundered and started working on a mat for the Egyptian papyrus. For work I needed the following materials and tools: - plastic pipe; - linen cord; - corrugated cardboard; - black fabric (preferably velvet); - PVA glue; - paints; - putty; - acrylic lacquer; - “zero” sandpaper; - saw;- scissors and stationery knife; - brushes. Take corrugated cardboard and cut the base 5 cm (on each side) larger than the papyrus size.
 Cut the fabric along zmeru
Cut the fabric to the size of the base with an allowance of 3-4 cm in order to clasp the edges of the cardboard.
We glue the fabric onto the cardboard
Glue the fabric onto the cardboard and set aside to dry. Plastic pipe is cut along in half. We measure and cut the segments by 5-7 cm more than the base (cardboard).
 We cut the plastic pipe
Now we make imitations of bamboo knots or, so-called, with linen twine ribs. To do this, we simply wind the twine into a pipe in several layers, which would result in a rather tall bump, about 0.5 cm.in height.

This should be done at a distance of about 15-20 cm, but it is not necessary to measure the intervals with a ruler. Uneven distance between the ribs will give our bamboo a natural charm.

Next putty we grit the pipe, paying special attention to the nodes. If it does not work out very carefully - do not despair, because after drying we will sand with sandpaper.
 putty priming the pipe
After drying and grinding, you need to paint over the ribs bamboo. This should be done as follows: the first stage is to paint the bamboo with brown paint, let it dry, the second stage - the most prominent element of the knot should be highlighted with black or dark brown paint.

Then, using a lighter paint, cover the whole bamboo and wipe off the paint in several places with a dry brush. Varnish.Dry.
cover the whole bamboo
In the meantime, glue our papyrus onto the finished mat (cardboard covered with a cloth). Again, leave to dry and take on the dried bamboo. Now I’ll call the pipes that way because they really look like him. We need to make a frame. To do this, take the twine, and cross the cross by tethering the sticks. You need to bind very tightly!

Using a needle or sewing, pierce the mat from all sides at the same distance 0.5 cm from the edge and thread the holes in the twine with a frame. In the end, it turns out like this.

This is how with a small outlay of time and money you can get an exclusive, unique, designer interior item.
