Many auto manufacturers already include ESP in the design of the cars they produce. This technology has not yet managed to find its place in the basic configuration of each individual model. So far, ESP is only an additional feature that reduces the risk of an accident by as much as 30 percent. Today, we will deal with this concept.
What is ESP?
ESP (Electronic Stability Control) is a vehicle's course control system. The presence of such a system in your car significantly reduces the risk of being involved in a serious accident, and therefore saves your life. Also ESP is called a stabilization system. There is a special control unit that controls the actions of this system. Sensors installed in various parts of the car, track the direction of movement of the car body. Their data mainly depend on the position of the steering wheel and accelerator pedal. The control center also receives information about lateral accelerations and drift characteristics.
At that moment, when on the road there is a situation in which the driver can no longer drive a car, the ESP system enters into work immediately. The system itself recognizes a dangerous situation. ESP corrects the course of the car. How does this happen? The system turns on the wheel brakes in turn, depending on the situation. Or both wheels on the sides of the car, or one front or rear wheel. In this case, the system itself makes a decision about braking of one or another wheel, based on objective data received from sensors. In the most extreme case, the ESP system interrupts the supply of fuel to the engine, that is, it "chokes" it by stopping the car. All this complex process occurs unnoticed and quickly. The main role in it belongs to the interaction of the ESP control unit and the anti-lock braking system ABS.
Thus, ESP is a software add-on to the ABS system. By itself, the ESP system will be useless. Therefore, if you conceived to purchase and install ESP, then you need to make sure that ABS is available on your car.
It turns out that the cost of ESP technology is not very high. But, at the moment, many motorists are forced to overpay a lot of money for installing this option, which can save lives in a critical situation. From the side of auto manufacturers - this is at least blasphemy.
In February 2009, new standards for car crash tests were set. Now, the Euro NCAP system includes in its tests a new criterion. This is the presence of the ESP motion stabilization system. This is due to the fact that until 2009, almost all cars gained the maximum score according to the results of crash tests. In order for auto manufacturers to provide their customers with greater safety, it was decided to tighten checks. This is a very correct position, as we believe. After all, there is no better desire than the desire to save lives and ensure maximum security.
Many drivers who had a chance to test ESP on the road said they would never buy a car without an ESP system. Many auto manufacturers have long offered ESP only as an option, but at the moment, most "civilized" cars have a stabilization system in their basic configuration. Many drivers call ESP an electronic guardian angel.
You should never save on the safety of yourself and your loved ones. After thinking about buying a new car, be sure to ask whether the ESP system is installed on it. If not, then such a car is better not to buy.The life and health of your loved ones also depends on you. While driving, remember, you are responsible for the lives of your passengers.
